Why?

I see you standing there with the crown of thorns on your head.
I feel the pain you bear as the thorns cut deep.
All your loneliness and shame face a world that's lost its way.
"Please forgive them!" are the words I hear you say.

And I ask why? Why, does this man have to die?
And I ask why? Why, was he nailed upon a tree?
Then as thunder roared, and lightening flashed,
"It is finished!" he cried.
Then he gave up the ghost and died.

Behold the empty tomb with the stone laid aside.
Behold the Son now lives at the fathers side.
Deaths sting could not contain the creator's breath of life.
He is risen, and He gives to us new life.

And I ask why? Why cruel death gives birth to life?
And I ask why? Why should he choose to set me free?
Then as thunder roared and lightening flashed,
"It is finished!" he cried.
The father's love gave us new life.

A life full of love and honesty,
A beacon for us all.
A light for the world to help us see,
That god is in us all.
No more hatred, no more crying, no more hungry eyes.
Hear his story! Hear the reason why he died.

And I ask why? Why do we sometimes choose to hide?
And I ask why? Why do I fail to see past me?
When the thunder roared, the curtain tore.
The father's path revealed.
And Jesus cries, "Come follow me!"
