To Be A Man
What makes a man a man can you tell me?
What takes him through to stand up and be strong?
What's in his eyes, behind the smile that hides the inner fears;
What makes this little boy become a man?
What makes a man become broken-hearted?
What does it take to show him that he's wrong?
How many times will he deny the blindness to the truth;
He needs her loving arms to breathe again.
It isn't fear that draws you near,
It isn't macho selfish pride
It isn't passion, strength or size
That this giant tries to hide.
It's the boy inside the man,
It's the way he understands,
His darling's love is all he needs to be a man.
From his mothers arms he goes to face the world
Open-hearted, full of confidence and life.
Day to day the world grows darker all around him;
Til' he finds the shining love who'll be his wife.
It isn't fear that draws you near,
It isn't macho selfish pride
It isn't passion, strength or size
That this giant tries to hide.
It's the boy inside the man,
It's the way he understands,
His darling's love is all he needs to be a man.
