Emmaus
Travelling down a dusty road with a good friend by my side,
Talking 'bout how Jesus died;
He just wandered up beside and he asked us what it was
That was heavy on our minds.
I didn't know who you were
Didn't ask where you came from
I didn't even ask your name.
But you chose to share such living words rushing through my soul,
Teaching me mysteries I thought I'd never know - I'd never know
Could he really not have known, how they crucified the Christ
How they laid him in a tomb?
Yet this morning he was gone, shining angels sang their song
Of how the Lord is coming soon.
He said, "Why d'you question what is written, He must suffer and be slain,
On the third day He will rise."
Then he shared the prophets living words, rushing through my soul,
Teaching me mysteries I thought I'd never know - I'd never know
I begged him "Come stay with us!
The journey's long there may be trouble up ahead."
Then He opened our blind eyes, when He broke bread and blessed it -
Our saviour is alive!
So many stumble on the way through the journey of their lives
Never knowing what He's done.
How life starts and ends with Him, how He's paid the price for sin
How our lives can be reborn.
I should have known who you were, should have asked where you came from,
I should have known your name.
And why you chose to share those living words, rushing through my soul,
Teaching me mysteries I thought I'd never know - I'd never know
Travelling down a dusty road through the journey of my life, with a good friend by my side.
